Hi,
when people ping you – mention @yourusername - it might be that the topic is more urgent or important for you to see. There is the possibility to receive an email-notifaction when you are pinged.
To eneable this go to the top left and click on your profile icon and than on the gear icon to enter the settings.

Scroll down in the settings and enable: „Send me an email when someone quotes me, replies to my post, mentions my @username, or invites me to a topic“
