A discussion on the intersection between Open Source Circular Economies and marketplace platform development.
Linear and Circular Economies both conceptualise a “Retail” space or stage. Supply chains are in fact exchange chains or networks of marketplaces production is mediated by markets. Markets and marketplaces are also power structures. The ownership, control, operation and governance of these markets and marketplaces has to be re-imagined and reconfigured to realise circular economies. Linear supply markets externalise risk and costs and internalise control and value. Circular supply markets must internalise risk and cost, create fair exchange and redistribution of value.
There are a growing number of entrants in to the marketplace - exchange - space: fairmondo, open bazaar, fair coop, mass mosaic, sharetribe building and testing applications and concepts that also aim to be fair and distributed.
