LIVE STREAMED TALK, Saturday, June 11 – 2:15 PM UTC - Duncan Baker-Brown

TITLE: ‘The Re-Use Atlas: a designer’s guide towards a circular economy’

CONTENT: (Duncan Baker-Brown) In In 2014 I coordinated the design and construction of Europe’s first permanent public building made of material discarded by others. Known as the Brighton Waste House this project is an ongoing ‘live’ research project, a community hub and base for the University of Brighton’s MA in Sustainable Design. Incredibly it was built by over 360 design and construction students and currently creates more energy than it consumes.

This four year long experience of developing, completing and inhabiting this unique building has afforded me the opportunity to immerse myself in the world of the ‘circular economy’ to such an extent that I am now writing a book entitled ‘The Re-Use Atlas: a designer’s guide towards a circular economy’. My talk will discuss this step by step guide, starting with the first step ‘recycling’, then ‘re-use’, ‘reduce’ and finally some emergent ‘cradle to cradle’ projects. My book critically appraises over 40 case studies and interviews with designers, makers, practitioners and business leaders. My talk will discuss some of these projects.

Okay, I have put myself down for three session as part of the global reporting. It might be too many depending on who else from the @BoST can also host?

We need hosts and co-hosts for all hangouts. Who else volunteers? We are waiting for you.

Christiana Gardikioti in Euboea and Franz Nahrada in Vienna. We are just looking for the dates …

possibly Friday 10th PM session (3PM Vienna, 4 PM Greece)

Hey @JayKay cool! Can you add your name to the schedule above…it’s a wiki that you can edit yourself.

Hi everyone. What’s technically required to host a call?

@Gien - Here is the Tutorial for global Hosts.

@BoST I made one of you (MAIN) per call and the other one (DEP - for deputy). The “Main” person is the one who will set up the call and post the links.

Please check again, if you times are correct. Compare to UTC (=GMT) here.

@RicardoRug @RicardoR & @guadalupe + others – interested in hosting a call?

Hello! I can host the June 12 1300 with @Silvia Although the event in Singapore will take place on June 11 (2am to 5am UTC) time

Woops @Lars2i if not one is hosting the 13 June 1am (9am Singapore time), I can do that too. I’ve tried editing the wiki but i can’t seem to add my name.

It comes with a lot of technical difficulties (I was unable to connect for the first 15 min) and in a small group. But here is the first community call.

not on yet. What happened?`

When I start to broadcast you mean?

Yes - when you hit on the blue button saying start

Just to let you know, I am watching on YouTube. Could Florian check his mic settings? That might be the problem. I can see and hear Sharon very well, and hear Lars.

Lars, it would be great to mute your mic as you walk around and show the workshop.

Hi Sharon, that was good, except for the connection issues. One small thing to change: the title shows the date incorrectly 8 feb 2016.

It was very nice to see the Berlin big mini-factory.

Thanks for the support Silvia. That’s great.

I did not catch Florian’s full name and where he was speaking from.
